Golden Ticket to ride the 2014 Cannonball

January 1, 2014

Cannonball.  The word has a lot of meaning today.  Thoughts of Mr. Baker and his long tough days in the saddle crossing the big ol’ USA.   Or for a few of us modern riders it means rebuilding a motor on the tailgate of the pickup truck, or the excitement of smelling the salt air when finally finishing the route.  And of course meeting new and old friends for a 3 week adventure, bumping into one another at some random gas station in the middle of nowhere, then speeding out of sight again towards the next destination.  Long nights in a dark hotel parking lot fixing things and looking for an even bigger hammer…

Was it fun?  Well I always say that it was memorable.  Difficult?  For sure.  But as rewarding as any ride can be.  Click here to read portions of the saga.  My Cannonball was an ordeal but if you want to ride the Cannonball there just might be simpler way for you…

Matt Olson is man of ideas, and his latest idea is a good one.  He is supplying one lucky winner with his beautiful and reliable 1936 Knucklehead and fuel, chase truck, mechanic, hotels, etc. for the 2014 Cannonball.  The C’ball has been sold out for months now, but Matt bought an entry and is raffling it off as a package.  The rider only needs to be able to ride a bike, and Matt and team will take care of everything all the way to Tacoma, WA.  If you are the winner, all you have to do is wake up each morning, start the bike and point it westward.  Matt will follow you all day, and fix things if needed with his own supply of big hammers.  (The deal is that you get the bike for the duration of the rally, but you do have to give the bike back to Matt at the end of the Cannonball!).  What a fun time, and a relatively simple way to enjoy what should be the ride of your lifetime.  One of Matt’s other websites has all the details.  It sounds like a great time with Matt, Brittney and Carl Olson for a couple of weeks on the road.  Good luck!

    Hi Pete,

I’m sure someone else will let you know, but the link provided in your email leads to a 404 error. I would walk through fire to be able to go on the Cannonball, but I’m afraid that even with everything covered but living expenses, it would still be too expensive for me right now. I’ll just have to be forever envious of the lucky so-and-so that actually gets to go.

Anyway, just wanted you to know your link is busted.
