100 year old cars and bikes rally across Australia
This week, a group of old cars and bikes are in the middle of a rally across Australia. They are travelling 4100kms (2547 miles) in 20 days from Perth to Sydney. Many of the cars have one or two cylinder motors, and steam cars are present too. Here is the website for the rally: http://www.vccansw.org/2012/vcca_2012.htm
This rally is to commemorate the first crossing of OZ via car, done by a Brush auto back in 1912. Here is a link to some photos of a local Brush that goes on the Alturas run. Note the wood axle, frame and other bits in this lightweight car. It must have been a tough drive back in ‘12.
Some of our friends from the Cannonball are riding from Perth; Katrin and Dieter made the long trip down under from their home in Germany.
As they left Perth on the weekend, Andrew Repton took a series of photos and sent them to me to publish. Thanks Andrew for the photographs!
Its like crossing Nevada, 10 times. What a crazy adventure, but at least they have the company of like-minded madmen. Good luck!
wow!
long days and even longer nights will be taking place keeping the fleet alive.
Wonderful!
Pete, Thanks for the post. I love the veteran stuff – so elemental. There is a similar run here in the Pacific Northwest; Seattle to Spokane. I had the great fortune of crossing paths with this rally while out on the Guzzi a few years back. Most impressive! I have forgotten who organizes this, but I think it is an annual event. I will see if I can get some more info.
We just finished coming across Aust with the veteran cars and bikes. A great group of people, hardy and fun like their vehicles.
