John and Aldo; 1907 Maxwell Runabout

John and his father Aldo have been travelling from the SF Bay Area up to Alturas in Modoc County for about 30 years to attend the big car tours and the small car tours.  Aldo turned 90 this year, and knows a thing or two about early cars and bikes (as does John!).  This photo shows father and son in their 1907 Maxwell Runabout two cylinder car, after fording the flooded road to the Flournoy ranch.   The snow covered Warner Mountains can be seen a few miles ahead.

    Hi Pete
Pushing towards 5″ rain for the week.
Way back when I was a kid, say 1955, Stan Reynolds used to run his ’11 Runabout in the Wetaskiwin City Parade, (before the County Fair opened). I may have registered it before the Reynolds-Alberta Museum opened.
It should run yet but there were mutters of unobtanium Splitrdorf points for the magneto. I’d reckon that the pads from a good set of Blue Streak points -say chevy 6- would silver solder very nicely to the old arms. Myself I’d go for an optically/magnetically triggered CDI from an oilfield engine ignition conversion package, as the flywheel is out in the open.
    Could also go with MSD.
    me go now,
    Lee
