R.I.P. Max Bubeck

April 8, 2011

Max passed away this morning.  He was a character who was a bit larger than life, full of stories and ready to tell them all to his friends and fans.  He led tours into Death Valley every year for decades, and won races in dirt on big old Indians and also set records on the salt flats.  He’ll be missed by a lot of folks.

I called Max during the pre-16 cannonball in September of last year to get some advice. He was very helpful and glad to know he was thought of. I’m glad I called him again this past Christmas to thank him again for his help and just to wish him a Merry Christmas. It seems he had a fun filled life – one full of adventure. His life should be celebrated.
