New hole in the motor, Cannonball stage 15
September 28, 2010
The little left handed screw that holds the timing gear onto the mainshaft backed out someplace in the Mohave desert. As it unthreaded, it went through the aluminum timing cover. I heard the gears rattle (sounded like rod knock) and I pulled over. No extra left handed 1/4-26 screws in the tool kit. But a fix was found, and I continued on across the desert toward the ocean.
The duct tape was used in an attempt to keep some of the oil in the motor. It lasted about 10 miles before it disintegrated.

Pete:
That has to be the shortest documentary of the “Life of Duct Tape” ever. Are you home yet???
Ja ja (Spanish for “Ha ha”).
Jim A. Home at last.
p.s. I see we both made the headline photo on the Cannonball site.
Home late last night. sorting 1000’s of photos today. I’ll dump them all onto OL soon, then get back to the How-To articles.
Bloody Awesome Pete!
You guys should be arrested for having too much.
I you turn the sound off in the “duct tape holed” video and lip read, I think your motor is asking “what’s for lunch”?
Brilliant.
Cheers Richard
